Momentum and Growth Investing

Glitz, glamour, trends and fads - if you're going to invest, you want to be the life of the party and the talk of the town with your selections.

After all, growth goes onwards and upwards, if you choose the right business (technology).

If you're going to do something, do it extraordinarily well?

Do something hip, contemporary and something that is in the news all the time - something that you want to wake up for every single day.

The popular belief is that the investing public will, after all, chase the latest fabulous choice investment. The investing public wants liquid stock choices, which are aired and followed religiously on mainstream media.

The hype generated by the likes of mainstream media will prop up the price - what could be less risky?

At least, for the technologically inclined, you will understand the media interest surrounding the investee company and hence, be able to sleep at night with your selections?

Counterintuition

Toby Carlisle's book submits, in effect, that the research indicates that nothing could be further from the truth. He prefaces the book by saying that contrary to the abovementioned popular belief that one should invest in winning, growth stocks, such investments are statistically tended to fail.

Instead, Toby submits you should do the opposite! Invest in losing stocks, either in market price, earnings or growth. The preface of the book suggests that money is to be made not by investing in winners, but in the mispricings of losers!

Contrarianism

This extraordinary book is well researched, well written and well presented. It dances around the conventional wisdom and seeks to point out some home truths that although counterintuitive, are lucrative to the investors that subscribe to it.
